Associate Director of Policy & Strategic Initiatives, Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania
Ms. Schwartz has worked in the non-profit sector for 14 years. Upon receiving her BA from the University of New Mexico, Ms. Schwartz began working in early childhood development through the Head Start program in Albuquerque, New Mexico as a Family Service Specialist and eventually supervising her own center. Ms. Schwartz left New Mexico to move to Pennsylvania to pursue personal and professional goals, including furthering her education at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Social Work. While perusing her Masters in Social Work, Ms. Schwartz discovered her passion for advocacy and housing related issues. In 2013, Ms. Schwartz joined the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania.
In her time at the Housing Alliance, she has spear headed initiatives to explore inclusionary housing for Pittsburgh, helped craft legislation for the Pittsburgh Housing Opportunity Fund, and led a landlord engagement initiative that resulted for the creation of the new Housing Navigation Unit and landlord risk mitigation fund within the Allegheny County Department of Human Services. Ms. Schwartz continues her work with the diverse membership of the Housing Alliance to address pressing housing and community problems across the Commonwealth and to advocate for funding and resources at the state and federal levels. She is currently a member of both the Allegheny County Homeless Advisory Board and the Southwest Regional Homeless Advisory Board.
