D2: Innovative Approaches to Preserving Affordable Housing From Individual Projects to Citywide Initiatives

Throughout the Commonwealth, affordable housing developments are at risk as many are in need of significant renovations and/or are at risk of conversion to market rate housing. This panel will explore the affordable housing preservation crisis in the Commonwealth so that the audience will understand the factors that are undermining affordable housing preservation. Three approaches to address preservation will be explored: on a project level, an innovative re-development of  a senior housing development in central Pennsylvania and two cities, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, where the nonprofit sector and City government have joined together to offer both systemic approaches and project-level interventions to preserve affordable housing.

Moderator: Mark Deitcher, Director of Business Development, Mission First Housing Group

Speakers: Claude F. Hicks, Vice President/Director of Real Estate Development, Housing Development Corporation MidAtlantic; Carolyn Placke, Program Officer, Philadelphia LISC; David Buches, Community Investment Manager, FHLBank Pittsburgh
