B5: Leaders or Tokens? Partnering with Young People in the Fight to End Youth Homelessness

As youth homelessness slowly gains attention across the country as an important issue in the housing justice field, youth are often left out of decision-making processes, or treated like tokens while adult professionals take the lead on developing programs, fighting for resources, and advancing advocacy goals. This session, developed and led by youth in solidarity across geographical boundaries, will engage housing professionals in conversation around how the unique challenges of fighting youth homelessness can be best met by trusting and partnering with young people themselves who have lived through the complex systems and circumstances that advocates are working to change.

Moderator & Speaker: Youth HEALers Stand Up, Youth Organizers, People’s Emergency Center

Speakers: The Attic Youth Center, Philadelphia; Valley Youth House Youth Advisory Board, Bethlehem Valley Youth House
